Chanel Davila announced as FNU’s head women’s basketball coach

HIALEAH, Fla. (May 30, 2025) — Florida National University is pleased to announce Chanel Davila as its third head women's basketball coach in program history. Davila became the first woman to hold this position in late May and the second female coaching hire in the athletic department's history.

Davila is no stranger to blazing her own path, leading Miami Christian School to consecutive FHSAA State Championships in 2021 and 2022. Davila built and created a culture of success with Miami Christian over six years, winning five district championships, three regional championships, and two runner-up finishes at the regional level. The Victors and Davila also had a state championship final four appearance in 2024.

She is a back-to-back Florida Farmer's 2A Coach of the Year (2021 and 2022), and the Miami Herald named Davila Coach of the Year during her two successful campaigns in Lakeland, Fla.

Before heading to Florida National, Davila gained college coaching experience as an assistant for the Florida Palms University men's basketball team from 2022 to 2023. Her day-to-day duties included running practices for both the varsity and junior varsity squads, reviewing game statistics and breaking down film.

Davila's hard work contributed to an Independent Collegiate Athletic Association (IJCAA) Championship for the FPU Owls in 2023.

She is a former women's basketball player at Florida International University (2007-2008), where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business Management as a double major.

Conquistador women's basketball has seen back-to-back impressive seasons on the court and looks to continue that success under Davila's tutelage.

In 2023-2024, FNU made its first NAIA Tournament appearance before falling to No. 1-ranked Marian University, and 2025 saw the Lady Conquistadors drop their first game of the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament in a 57-52 loss to Washington Adventist University.
