Men’s basketball moves to 0-2 in exhibitions, falls to Barry 101-48

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Nov. 29, 2025) — Florida National men's basketball (3-4) was outscored 46-21 in the second half, falling in an exhibition match to the NCAA DII Barry University Buccaneers (4-2). Notably, Ronald Fernandez paced the Conquistadors with a near double-double, and Trevon Clark had a team-high eight points off the bench in the 101-48 loss.

To begin the seventh head-to-head between these South Florida institutions, Barry looked in great position to make it a 7-0 series lead against Florida National. The home team went into the break up 55-27, thanks to 58% shooting from the field. Nine converted three-pointers from Barry put even more pressure on FNU's squad, as the Conquistadors went just 1-5 from behind the arc and shot 41% in the period. Barry's defense also forced 11 FNU turnovers, and the Bucs capitalized with five steals and 13 assists on the other end of the court.

Barry's Marko Sarenac and Deon Perry were both in double figures with 13 and 11 first-half points, respectively. Novak Perovic was special underneath the glass with eight boards and five points before the break rolled around. FNU was kept afloat by seven rebounds from Fernandez and nine combined points from Joshua Milla and Jonathan Norman.

In the final period of play, FNU flourished on the free-throw line and ended the game 9-14 from the charity stripe. This was an important source of their scoring in the final stretch, as FNU went just 6-22 in the half and was outscored by 24. For Barry, Michael Bradley III was feeling it from downtown for a quick nine points in 14 minutes. Tarrance Warren was just as special closer to the basket for nine on 4-5 shooting from the floor to close out FNU's post-Thanksgiving Saturday in Miami Shores, Fla.

Fernandez set the tone for FNU with seven points and nine rebounds. Clark had a great second half to end the game with a team-high eight points, while Jesus Rivas did his part with five boards and six points. Notably, Milla and Hasmar Francois tallied five points apiece in the loss.

Up Next: Men's basketball has another road trip on the schedule, visiting the NAIA's No. 8-ranked Ave Maria University Gyrenes on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.
