Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brenda Bogle

Men’s basketball drops a close battle to Beacon College, 91-87

LEESBURG, Fla. (Nov. 3, 2026) — Florida National men's basketball (0-1) saw a 16-point lead in the first half dissolve late, losing its season opener to the Beacon College Blazers (2-3), 91-87. This is the first meeting between these two programs, and both parties put on a show offensively.

The Conquistadors lived and died on the three-point line in the first half, knocking down seven of 16 shots from long range to enter the break up 43-35. Fernando Romero (11) and Reginald Reinhardt led the charge, scoring 21 combined points on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor. Serge Beauvoir III's steady play over 20 minutes earned the sophomore 11 points and a team-high five rebounds.

FNU's fast-paced offense was a real problem for the Blazers early, trailing by as many as 16 halfway through the period. They relied on 14 points from Chris Lampkins and 11 from Ernesto Hichez to get the Conquistador advantage back to single digits. Beacon paced the fairly level rebounding race 21-18 as both teams shot the ball well from the charity stripe with one missed shot apiece.

BC's momentum at the end of the first carried over to the second, catapulting the home team to within two points less than five minutes into the half. FNU was 0-6 out of the break, while Beacon went 4-7 from the field and made it a 46-44 affair. Beacon's second lead of the game came on a pair of great threes, one from Tre'Von Redd to put his team ahead 50-46. FNU's first bucket of the half finally arrived on a circus-shot in the paint by Reginald Reinhardt with 13:15 on the clock.

The Blazers never conceded the lead for the remainder of this USCAA battle in Lessburg, Fla., capitalizing on the driver's seat behind a 17-point half by Redd. As a team, the Blazers shot 52.8% compared to 40.6% for the Conquistadors. FNU came close on a number of occasions, closing the gap within three on a long-range shot by Romero. In the end, 10 turnovers proved too much for the visiting team to overcome.

Notably, Reginald Reinhardt made a splash in his first game with 26 points while Romero posted 24 points, three boards and an assist off the bench. Beauvoir ended the evening with 11 points, three assists, and a pair of steals while Rashard Reinhardt had a team-high two blocks to go along with 11 points.

Up Next: Florida National has two road games next week, beginning with a 7 p.m. contest against Warner University Nov. 11.
