Florida National exits Ocean Bank Center with 110-55 loss

MIAMI, Fla. (Nov. 14, 2024) — Men's basketball (0-4) lost its first of two exhibitions this season, conceding a 110-55 loss to the Florida International University Panthers (1-2) Thursday. Guards Jeremy Arnum and Cameron Johnson combined for 36 points at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.

Florida National's defense allowed Jayden Brewer and Vianney Salatchoum to pass double-digits in the opening half. Seven different Panthers contributed to the home team's 25-point lead going into the break. Arnum accounted for seven of FNU's 25 in the first period and Caelum Ethridge followed closely behind with six. The Conquistador shot 10-31 from the floor while FIU hovered around 45%. 

In the second half, FIU continued to put a real distance between itself and its NAIA competition. George Pridgett Jr. recorded 12 in the first half despite being held scoreless in the opening frame. Forward Okechukwu Okeke was strong in the paint with 10 points and five boards in the half as FIU outscored the Conquistadors 60-30. 

Notably, Arnum made a tremendous jump offensively with 15 points down the stretch. He ended the night with a double-double after collecting a team-high ten rebounds. Johnson also showed off his passing game with four assists to lead all players in a Conquistador uniform. 

FIU is now 3-0 overall against the Conquistadors with its first win coming in 2017. This is also the largest margin of victory over Florida National for the NCAA DI Panthers
