Bentancourt claims school record in FNU’s debut cross country race

BOCA RATON, Fla. (Sept. 4, 2026) — Florida National cross country has a new school record holder in the women's 5K after veteran Lismar Bentancourt placed 21st overall (19:30.0) at the Keiser University Flagship Invitational. FNU's men's and women's teams started the 2026 season against NCAA DII runners on the course of South County Regional Park.

The Conquistadors ran shoulder to shoulder against athletes from Lynn University, Barry University, Eckerd College, Palm Beach Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University. NAIA programs St. Thomas University, Ave Maria University and host Keiser University rounded out the field on a cloudy September evening in Boca Raton, Fla.

For the FNU men, senior Mario Martinez had a great start to his farewell season and finished in the top 80 with a time of 18:50.2. Freshman and fellow Academy for Innovative Education Charter School alum Ricardo Pereira ended his first collegiate race with a time of 21:13.9. Freshman runner and former track standout Marven Cassamajor completed the course two spots behind Pereira, clocking in at 21:18.3. Orane Daley also crossed the finish line in Boca Raton, Fla., with a time of 24:32.8.

The Conquistadors women were paced and led by a school-record performance by Bentancourt, breaking Maryam Abreu's time of 19:38.80. Senior Mia Betancourt also made her 2026 debut, as the former all-conference honoree placed 81st with a time of 24:48.1.
