Bentancourt crowned CAC Champion, joins Martinez as an NAIA National qualifier

LAKELAND, Fla. (Nov. 7, 2025) — Florida National women's cross country gained its first-ever Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) individual champion with Lismar Bentancourt crossing the finish line of the women's 6-kilometer race in first place. Notably, men's cross country junior Mario Martinez qualified for nationals with a seventh-place finish in the men's 8K.

For the Conquistador women, the team finished in second place and is the conference runner-up, thanks in part to a strong performance from Bentancourt. The Venezuelan distance runner finished a full two minutes before the second-place runner, posting a time of 24:23.5 en route to her championship title. Mia Betancourt (28:43.5) and Karol Padilla (29:21.7) ended their 2025 season in seventh and eighth place, respectively, while Daryl Quichimbo (30:52.3) placed 11th. Freshman Savanna Duperval had a time of 36:48.0, and Jailyn Otero was 17th with a time of 36:52.5.

Haskell Indian Nations University took home the conference championship with a team score of 22.

Another solid performance from Mario Martinez paced the FNU men. The Miami native's time of 28:26.3 had enough in the tank to qualify for his second consecutive trip to nationals as the fastest FNU man in the race.
