Betancourt and Martinez shine at Keiser Flagship

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 6, 2024) - Florida National's men's and women's cross country teams finished the second race of 2024, with the men's team ending the morning in fourth place. The Keiser Flagship Invitational included tough competition from South Florida such as Lynn University and Palm Beach Atlantic University. 

The Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Runner of the Week, Mario Martinez, had another strong showing in 2024. The Miami native posted a time of 17:15.6 for a 16th-place finish. Newcomer  Denis Reis ran a personal best and ended the race in 32nd (20:41.0). Notably, track standout Andrew Lebert had a time of 26:00.5 in his first collegiate cross country event. 

Moreover, Mia Betancourt was the true highlight of FNU's 5K race. The sophomore ran 25:08.8 to finish in 29th place. FNU's first female national qualifier in track and field, Joelle Baptiste, made her first appearance on the course in 2024. She completed the race with a time of 33:10.3.

Up Next: Florida National will race at the Duval 5K XC Challenge hosted by the University of North Florida on Sept. 13. The men's 5K commences at 7:30 p.m. and the women take the starting line at 8 p.m.
