Conquistadors battle it out at the UNF 5K Challenge

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Sept. 13, 2024) - The Florida National University Conquistador cross country teams spent Friday the 13th at the University of North Florida 5K Cross Country Challenge in Jacksonville, Fla. The men's team ended the night with a 10th-place finish out of 12 teams, while the women landed in the last spot in the competition at 13. The Ospreys hosted a competitive event with teams from NCAA DI and DII institutions like the University of Tampa, Flagler College and Florida Atlantic University.

Mario Martinez continues to be at the top of his game, earning the fastest finish for a male Conquistador at 81st (18:42.7). Freshman Daniel Reis and veteran runner Michael Kipchumba followed closely behind, finishing the course in 101st and 103rd. After missing the starting line at the Keiser Flagship Invite last week, Miami native Nathaniel Jimenez posted a time of 24:53.7 (109th).

The women's side was a thrilling race with some new faces striding in Conquistador red. Stellar transfer Lismar Bentancourt made her debut with a splashing, claiming the fastest time for an FNU female runner at 21:44.4 (54th). Notably, soccer sensation Enma Amaya showed her speed on the course, coming in at 25:58.1 (100th) followed by Mia Betancourt at 26:17.6 (106th).
