Florida National cross country completes long-awaited 2025 debut

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 5, 2025) — Florida National cross country had its first race of the 2025 season, with the men's and women's teams completing a 5K at the Keiser University Flagship Invitational. FNU was previously scheduled to run the Florida Atlantic University Invitational on Aug. 29 before the event was canceled due to weather. 

Keiser's annual race featured an out-and-back course with runners representing Nova Southeastern University, St. Thomas University, Florida Atlantic University, Barry University, Lynn University, Keiser University and the University of The Bahamas. 

On the women's side of the course, Mia Betancourt had the best performance for the Conquistadors after beating her personal best time of 25:08.8 with a time of 23:33.2 on Friday morning. FNU's Karol Padilla (27:13.8) and Jailyn Otero (27:36.0) finished 60th and 61st, respectively. 

The Conquistador men ended their 5K with a team score of 187 for an eighth-place finish. Mario Martinez had the fastest dash to the finish line with a time of 17:25.3 to end the morning 31st. Freshman Joandy Olivera had a great morning in West Palm Beach, Fla., with a time of 17:36.0.

Luis Martinez had his cross country race after an impressive track and field season, posting a time of 19:14.1. Wenceslao Ferrin Arias, Nelson De Sousa Veloso and Jairo Andres Ferrin Arias crossed the finish line 54th, 55th and 56th, respectively.
