Cross country sweeps CAC Runner of the Week awards

HIALEAH, Fla. (Oct. 20, 2025) — Florida National's men's and women's cross country had a pair of runners take home Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Runner of the Week after FNU's time at the Ed Holloway Classic.

Junior Mia Betancourt and freshman Joandy Olivera used strong performances for their second and first conference honors this season, respectively. Betancourt's first runner of the week accolade came on Sept. 8, after setting a personal record at the Keiser University Flagship Invitational.

"Betancourt, the women's honoree, led the Conquistadors with a 49th-place finish in 27:33.5 across a 6-kilometer race in Florida that also featured runners from Division I Florida Gulf Coast University and Florida International University," said the CAC's press release on Monday.

Olivera paced Florida National at the Ed Holloway Classic, capping off an impressive regular season campaign for the Miami native out of Miami Jackson High School.

"Olivera, the men's award winner, finished 53rd at the Ed Holloway XC Classic in Lakeland, Florida, covering the 8-kilometer course in 30:02.1," said the CAC.

Betancourt and Olivera prepare for the conference championship in Lakeland, Fla., set for Nov. 7.
