Men’s track and field places third at USCAA Championship

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 27, 2025) — Conquistador track and field recorded a school record and six championships under rainy conditions at the USCAA National Championships. The FNU men were awarded a third-place overall finish, and the Conquistador women placed fourth out of 18 teams.

USCAA Nationals saw the return of Joelle Baptiste, and the sophomore finished second in the 100m hurdles (16.25) behind teammate Khy Burdon with a personal record. She also grabbed the title in the 400m hurdles (1:10.78) and placed second overall as a member of the 4x400m (4:25.18) relay.

Lismar Bentancourt was stellar in her first USCAA postseason appearance, taking home a title in the 5000m (19:52.90) and a personal-best performance in the 1500m (5:05.18) to finish second in the event. Daryl Quichimbo also ran the 1500m, crossing the finish line with a season-best time of 6:13.31.

Along with a championship in the 100m hurdles, Burdon placed third in the 200M (26.64) and was a member of the 4x400M team to take second place.

The other two members of that 4x400M team, Mia Betancourt and Keelee Okoro, had a brilliant afternoon in Springfield, Mass. Betancourt had a personal record in the 800m (2:36.32) to finish just out of the top three, and Okoro's 1.44m in the high jump put her in second place.

Men's track and field's 4x100m team of Donovan Agard, Nicolas Aguado Torres, Mario Martinez and Nathaniel Jimenez took first place with a time of 44.18. Jimenez, Andrew Lebert, Martinez and Torres also collaborated for a runner-up finish in the 4x400m (3:33.96).

Wenceslao Ferrin Arias did not disappoint, earning the championship title in the 110m hurdles with a school and personal record of 15.52. His high jump was a season's best for the Cali, Colombia, native and good enough for second place. Lebert also competed in the 110m hurdles and recorded a personal record time of 17.14.

Martinez rounded out a busy day with a title in the 400m (50.51), second place in the 800m (2:00.21) and a season-best display in the triple jump (11.85m).

Notably, newcomer Luis Martinez had PRs in the 400m (55.88) and 200m (24.98).
