Twelve titles, 17 personal records highlight Florida National’s time at the CAC Championship

MIRAMAR, Fla. (April 21, 2025) — Conquistador track and field put together a solid showing at the inaugural Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championship. FNU totaled two school records, 12 championships in 11 individual events and one relay, 17 personal records and seven runners-up.

FNU's women's team finished third out of four teams with a score of 77. FNU's meet was led by freshmen Khy Burdon and Lismar Bentancourt. Bentancourt was the 5000m (19:52.83) champion and runner-up in the 1500m (5:19.55). The CAC Newcomer of the Year also placed second in the 800m with a personal record of 2:34.65. Bentancourt excelled in the 4x400m to anchor her team to a second-place finish. 

Burdon earned three conference titles, grabbing the top spot in the 100m (12.56), 100m hurdles (16.11) and the 200m (26.36). She broke her school and personal record in the 100m for the second straight meet. In the 4x400m relay, Burdon's split of 1:05.19 helped FNU place second with a time of 4:27.75. 

Mia Betancourt was another solid performer with PRs in the 400m (1:07.20) and 800m (2:36.60). Freshman Keelee Okoro took home a Championship title in the high jump (1.22m). Notably, Daryl Quichimbo had her best performance in the 1500m (6:18.93) while Shaniece Richardson had a PR in the 100m (14.45).

The FNU men placed fourth out of four teams, paced by an impressive afternoon from Mario Martinez. The sophomore excelled in multiple events, taking the top spot in the triple jump (11.84m) and long jump (6.09m). He also placed third in the high jump with a mark of 1.67m. His title-clinching performances in the long and triple jump were his best marks of the season.

Martinez's championship performance in the 800 was a personal record for the sophomore. He also produced a 50-second split in the 4x400m relay (3:28.63) to help FNU take the top spot, and he earned a season-best time in the event. Newcomer of the Year Wenceslao Ferrin Arias was named the high jump (1.77m) champion and the 110m hurdles (15.63) champion with a school and personal record. Donovan Agard joined him on the podium with a third-place finish in the 110m hurdles. 

Nicolas Aguado Torres was exceptional in multiple events. Torres picked up a PR in the 100m (11.13) and the 200m (22.35). He helped FNU place third in the 4x100m relay (45.95) and used his speed to anchor a championship-winning 4x400m (3:28.63). Rashard Jacques has PRs in the three different events, while freshman Nathaniel Jimenez had two. Luis Martinez and Andrew Lebert both had two personal records before the afternoon was over. 

Haskell Indian Nation University took home the CAC men's track and field title with a score of 187, and Spartanburg Methodist College's score of 162 on the women's side was enough to end the afternoon in first.
