Conquistadors dazzle multiple events at STU Under the Lights

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 7, 2025)— Florida National track and field garnered five personal records and one school record at the St. Thomas University Under the Lights Invitational Friday.

The Conquistador men's team placed ninth out of 10 competing schools, including NCAA DII Barry University and Nova Southeastern University. On the women's side, FNU landed in eighth out of eight teams.

Reigning Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, Khy Burdon, had another standout performance with a school record in the 100M hurdles. Her 15.14 time helped her finish the event in third behind STU's Nyrania Barr-Miller and Sariyah Morales.

Burdon is now the proud owner of three program records after claiming historic performances in the 100M and 200M at the NSU Shark Invite last week. Freshman Keelee Okoro also made a splash in Miami Gardens, Fla., with a 1.42M mark in the high jump and a 15.13M javelin throw.

Mia Betancourt ran a 2:43.66 in the 800M race, while Lismar Bentancourt posted a 5:37.84 in the 1500M.

The FNU men had a historic day. Mario Martinez threw a personal best in the javelin at 26.39M and a 23.02 200M dash. Sophomore Andrew Lebert also had a PR in the javelin, throwing for 36.28M. Notably, Rashard Jacques impressed with a personal best 12.58 in the 100M.

In his first track competition as a Conquistador, Denis Silva recorded a 5:03.95 in 1500M.
