Panthers roar to stunning 132-25 victory over FNU

MIAMI, Fla. (Nov. 4, 2024) — Florida National (1-1) fell prey to an offensive juggernaut in a 107-point exhibition loss to the Florida International University Panthers (1-0). Kyla Cruz Baez led the Conquistadors with seven points in 22 minutes of play.

The first half was dominated by the home team at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. FIU impressed in its season opener, taking a 60-13 lead at the break. The Panthers shot over 40% in the period while FNU hung around 7%. FIU's size at the rim was a real problem for the Conquistadors. The Panthers totaled 66 rebounds to just 17 FNU boards through four frames.

The second half was another show of power for the Panthers. Seven different FIU players hit double-digits before the final whistle called the game to a close. Mya Kone leads all scorers with 21 points on 7-13 shooting from the floor. Hermione Hicks was the second leading scorer for FNU with four and tied Jaycee Omeir for the most rebounds for FNU with five.

This marks the second consecutive contest FNU has given up over 100 to the Panthers. In November 2023, the Panthers posted a 113-30 rout at home and now stand 3-0 opposite FNU.

Up Next: FNU is back to NAIA play against Warner on Nov. 5 at 6 p.m.
