FNU exits CAC Classic with loss to Morris College

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Feb. 7, 2026) — Conquistador women's basketball (11-13) allowed a 30-point second quarter from the Morris College Hornets (9-9) in a close 68-62 loss at the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Classic hosted by the Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies. FNU is now 4-5 against conference opponents and 1-3 over its last four games.

In the opening 10 minutes, Florida National held a 15-14 advantage thanks to five first-quarter points by Valeria Cifuentes. FNU did not shoot the ball well at 6-18 heading into the second, while Jada Teasley was pacing her team with six points on three made field goals in the period.

What followed for Morris was an impressive 30-point second period, led by nine Conquistador turnovers and 18 combined points from MC's Zoey McMickens and Alaya Grane. Morris forced its way to the free-throw line, going 9-13 from the charity stripe before halftime. Yorie Watson was also great off the bench with six quick points, while FNU went just 2-6 for six second-quarter points.

FNU looked to climb its way back from a hefty 44-21 deficit in the third and did manage to outscore the Hornets, 21-11. Jaylyn Laguna was critical to this run with seven points and three rebounds, as FNU took care of the ball for just two giveaways in the period. The fourth was also dominated by FNU, but Morris used the charity stripe to its advantage, icing the game with two-made free throws off the hands of Alaya Grane.

Laguna (17 points) and Cifuentes (13 points) were the highlights of FNU's afternoon in Georgia. Notably, Maria De Gracia Karamanites posted nine points and 10 rebounds to go along with a pair of blocks. Senior Hermione Hicks had a productive outing with seven off the bench and five rebounds.

Up Next: Florida National awaits the seeding and bid announcement for the 2026 CAC Tournament starting Feb. 26.
