Women’s basketball moves on to CAC Semifinals with win over Morris

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Feb. 26, 2026) — Florida National women's basketball (12-13) would not be denied Thursday, defeating the No. 6-seeded Morris College Hornets (11-14) for one of two final spots in the semifinal games of the 2026 Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Women's Basketball Championship.

Without freshman standout Ziul Gonzalez, FNU relied on big double-digit afternoons from Kaylee Llanos, Jaylyn Laguna and Maria De Gracia Karamanites. Trailing early on, FNU used a big 20-point burst in the second to head into the break up 35-30 before holding Morris to just 10 points in the third quarter. De Gracia posted eight of FNU's 20 in the second, bringing down three rebounds in the frame.

Llanos and Laguna took matters into their own hands in the third, combining for 14 Conquistador points despite their team shooting 36.8% from the floor. Morris' Alaya Grane posted eight in the fourth quarter, but FNU was able to keep itself ahead despite a period where seven different Hornets scored at least two points.

FNU's offense carried them despite 33 turnovers and 23 offensive rebounds for Morris College. Notably, FNU shot 28 free throws and hit on 19 of those attempts, and shot 44.3% from the floor while Morris sat at 39.4%.

De Gracia was a rebound shy of a double-double with a team-high 18 points and Laguna followed closely behind with 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Llanos played 37 minutes and tallied 17 points, eight assists, six steals and five rebounds.

Up Next: FNU meets Haskell Indian Nations University for the third time this season, Feb. 28, with a chance to play in the CAC title game on the line.
