Conquistadors shutout in loss to Florida College

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2026) — Florida National volleyball (3-9) dropped to 0-2 against Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) competition so far this season after a 3-0 loss to Florida College (12-5) Tuesday. The Falcons recorded 42 kills and assists in a rematch of a Sept. 18 clash at Bucky Dent Park.

The last time these teams shared the court, FNU earned a victory in set one behind back-to-back kills from Grace Leffler and Chriselle Ferdinand before falling in the following three frames. The Conquistadors could not find similar success in the opener of Tuesday's contest, tallying a 25-17 setback to get things started. The Falcons jumped to a 3-0 lead before nullifying this advantage on three straight attack errors. This was short-lived, however, as FC made it an 18-9 lead in their favor after a kill by Abby Lemay. An unsuccessful attacking attempt by Lizano Joya wrapped up the first for FC, setting up another excellent frame for the home team in the second.

The Falcons were stout once again in the next game of the match (25-19), earning a 21-13 lead on a block error by Carolina Goncalves. FNU was held to just six kills in the second while FC posted an overwhelming 13 terminations to hit .139 in the frame. With a 2-0 lead heading to the third, the Falcons relied on a 15-kill set to close out the Conquistadors in front of a home crowd 25-18. FNU did show some fight in crunch time with an impressive 8-2 scoring run before Jazmyne Slay earned the match-ending kill on a block error by Ariana Long.

Speaking of Long, the senior once again over the team with 13 digs, as Shady Mayer got in 10 digs of her own before the match was over. Lizano Joya and Diana Stetsko combined for 11 of FNU's 21 kills. Pelin Alci had a relatively quiet night by her standards but still paced the team with 13 assists.

Up Next: Volleyball is back on the court for the CAC Classic hosted by Hesston College, starting Oct. 8.
