Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Brenda Bogle

Volleyball suffers a pair of tough losses on day one of CAC Classic

HESSTON, Kan. (Oct. 8, 2026) — Women's volleyball (3-11) remains winless in Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) play, missing the mark against Simpson University (10-12) in three sets and Fisher College (16-7), 3-1 to open its time at the CAC Classic hosted by Hesston College.

To get things started in Hesston, Kan., FNU battled a familiar foe in Simpson University, the reigning CAC Champions who knocked FNU out in the title match last November. The Red Hawks still proved to cause problems for the Conquistadors throughout this match, defeating FNU 25-13 in the opening frame.

Simpson posted 12 kills while holding FNU to three successful attacking attempts by Carolina Goncalves (2) and Ariana Long. The Conquistadors racked up 10 attacking errors in the early going, and Simpson relied heavily on four kills from Tiara Manns to drive its offense. Simpson's run culminated in a set-clinching block by Kimora McKechnie and Mariah Napoleon to claim set one.

Frame two was a better showing for the Conquistadors, falling 25-18 despite a respectable nine kills. FNU can credit its revitalized offense on six combined kills by Sara Lizano Joya and Goncalves. FNU boasted an early 8-6 lead but could not keep Simpson at bay for long, as the Red Hawks climbed it way back in front to take a 21-13 lead on Maggie Warden's second termination of the second. The Conquistadors put up a great fight in crunch time, forcing three consecutive set points before Simpson ended the second game of the match on an attack error by Goncalves.

The final set of the match saw FNU held to just nine points, thanks to a great defensive and offensive performance by Napoleon. The outside hitter tallied a pair of kills to put her team ahead 18-7 and combined with Warren on a crushing block to make it 24-9. The Red Hawks. Notably, Elizabeth Heath posted six kills in the final game, including the final point of the game on an assist from Ella Perry. FNU's Chriselle Ferdinand (2), Goncalves and Grace Leffler had the final Conquistador kills of the match. Notably, Long had another game with 10 or more digs (14).

Moreover, FNU's lone set victory came in a 25-18 set-one triumph against Fisher College. The Conquistadors were firing on all cylinders with 12 kills and just five attacking errors to steal the first point of its battle against the Falcons. Lizano Joya posted three of those kills as Goncalves connected on the frame-clinching kill on a pass by Pelin Alci.

FC and FNU traded blows in the early goings of the second game before Fisher jumped to a 13-8 lead on a kill by Juliana Medina Palacio. FC went on a 12-5 run to exit the set on top, paced by three kills from Alondra Farinacci at the end of the set. FNU never really recovered from that point on, conceding 25-17 and 25-19 losses in the third and fourth games of the match. FNU was held to just 17 kills through the final two frames while Fisher earned 25.

Notably, Ferdinand had a team-high nine kills while Long and Lizano Joya combined for 28 of FNU's 72 digs.

Up Next: FNU is back on center stage tomorrow for a 2 p.m. showdown against conference rival Haskell Indian Nations University.
