Olszewski’s penalty not enough to surpass SEU Tuesday

HIALEAH, Fla. (Sept. 22, 2026) — Conquistador soccer (5-4-0) ran out of time against a formidable (RV) Southeastern University Fire (5-1-1) team Tuesday. The Conquistadors weathered a significant lightning delay a few minutes into the second half and could not find the equalizer to pair with a superb penalty from forward Michael Olszewski.

The last time these two teams clashed was during the 2025 season in Lakeland, Fla., where SEU was left on the outside of a 2-1 win by FNU. The Conquistadors relied on 6th-minute and 51st-minute scores by star David Luque Rivero to ice the Fire on the road.

This contest played out in a similar fashion in favor of the visiting team, with the Fire striking first on a goal by Pablo Lobon under four minutes into play. SEU made it a 2-0 affair after Koren Klein laced a brilliant pass by Fabian Perez into the back of the net. FNU headed to the break with an impressive nine shots and some great opportunities off corner kicks. Captain Juan Pugin set up headers from Kylian Behem, Augusto Pugin and Pablo Goyet that could not find their way across the goal line.

The Conquistadors finally got their chance to gain some ground on the Fire after JP Quaresm committed a foul in the penalty area, setting up Olszewski's successful shot from the marker in the 38th.

SEU posted just three shots in the half, as goalkeeper Noah Murray-Hawkins recorded two of his three saves in the first half. After waiting out an unfriendly weather delay with lightning in the area, FNU understood they needed to try and get an equalizer before its window of good weather closed for good.

This amounted to five FNU shots in the final minutes of play that did not find their way past keeper Murray-Hawkins. The middle of the field displayed some real tension, with Dylan Robert Ray Frank Gibbs and SEU's João Rubens picking up yellow cards for an unnecessary foul and a delay of game after throwing the ball out of play, respectively.

With 13 minutes left in regulation, the game was called after the second lightning alert rang out across the pitch of Milander Park. Goalkeeper Vitor Caetano Pedrosa ended his second start of 2026 with a pair of saves and faced four shots on goal.
