Softball bumped to elimination bracket in a loss to the Salem Tigers

DUBOIS, Pa. (May 12, 2026) — Conquistador softball (27-18) suffered its first loss of the 2026 USCAA Small College World Series, dropping an 8-4 contest to the Salem University Tigers (21-34) Tuesday. FNU's high-powered offense was held to one run through five frames despite a four-for-four afternoon from Alisha Lanyon.

Salem was able to execute early against the Conquistadors, going up 2-0 on a home run by Jacobi Gledhill in the first. The Tigers added two more in the third on an RBI double by Brooke Wise and Gledhill. An RBI fielder's choice by Wise in the fourth made it five unanswered runs for the Tigers until Carollann McClelland was able to break through in the bottom of the inning with an RBI groundout to Salem's pitcher.

The fifth, however, was another two-score affair for the team out of West Virginia, and FNU found itself down 8-1. Luckily for the Conquistadors, Lanyon came alive for a solo home run in the sixth and a stellar RBI single up the middle of the field in the seventh to make it a five-run lead for SU.

Elizabeth Owens followed up a big game one in DuBois, Pa., with an RBI single in the seventh. Still, Salem had a very important double play before the hit, ending the game and FNU's comeback with a routine 6-3 groundout on Bianca Bartow.

Pitcher Brunella Beteta pitched the opening 2.1 frames, ending the afternoon with three strikeouts and four runs allowed. Sophia White took the circle for the next 2.2 innings of action and recorded a strikeout before Ava Baronick allowed just one walk and a hit in the final two innings of play.

Up Next: FNU faces Southern Maine Community College tomorrow at 10 a.m.
