FNU dominates day one of SCWS, defeating PSU Fayette in five frames

DUBOIS, Pa. (May 11, 2026) — Florida National softball's (27-17) first taste of World Series action at the 2026 USCAA Softball Championship saw the Conquistadors post 15 runs in a stunning five-inning victory in DuBois, Pa. The Conquistadors set a new program record for runs scored and margin of victory at the Small College World Series.

FNU recorded 14 hits against the PSU Fayette Nittany Lions (8-17-1), paced by a three-for-three evening for catcher Alyssa Julien.

Fresh off an All-Tournament performance in the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament, Alisha Lanyon got FNU in front in the first with an inside-the-park home run. With the score at 3-0 after the Lanyon stunner, freshman Elizabeth Owens scored a three-run double in the third before scoring on a single by Sophia White.

Alissia Vega made it a 9-0 affair in the same frame, running in two on a single before advancing to second on a Nittany Lion error at right field. PSU could not bring the third to an end, as Julien posted a two-RBI single, Owens tripled for two more FNU runs before Carollann McClelland ran her in on a base hit to center field.

A Julien single to third base forced in Isabella Silva for the final FNU score of the evening at the top of the fifth. PSU Fayette got one on the board late, scoring on a single by Haylee Speicher to load the bases.

Notably, White went 3.2 frames from the circle, ending the evening with four strikeouts and no runs allowed. Freshman Ava Baronick, a DuBois, Pa., native, threw the final 1.1 of the contest and grabbed a strikeout and an earned run.

Up Next: Softball seeks another triumph tomorrow in a 4 p.m. game against the fifth-seeded Salem University Tigers.
