Conquistadors split final day in Lawrenceville, losing to the Grizzlies in the CAC Championship Round

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (May 1, 2026) — Florida National softball (26-17) got the 2-0 win over Westcliff University (21-23) before falling to the RV Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies (29-22) in the championship round of the 2026 Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament.

Against Westcliff, Florida National avenged its 2025 conference tournament exit at the hands of the Warriors by sweeping both of their head-to-head meetings in 2026. Brunella Beteta got the start on Friday, earning a shutout win on three strikeouts and a pair of walks.

The Conquistadors relied on another excellent showing at the dish from Alisha Lanyon and Carollann McClelland. Lanyon got FNU on the board in the third with an RBI triple to center field before McClelland's base hit two runners on, forcing in Lanyon to make it 2-0.

Westcliff had no answer offensively with just three hits the remainder of the contest, claiming Beteta her twelfth win in the circle over 23 appearances.

Against GGC, FNU fell behind in the second on a Molly Kemp sacrifice fly to left field and a base hit down the middle of the field by Reesie Burch. The Grizzlies added another run in the third off a single to third base from Savannah Jenkins.

It wasn't until the fifth that FNU made noise in the batter's box, ripping a score on a single by freshman Elizabeth Owens. Alissia Vega was the next Conquistador to record an RBI, forcing in two runners on a long single down the left field line.

With the game leveled at three runs apiece, GGC turned to Sara Roussel for a timely double hit through the left side of the field to run in Sophie Sisk. Pitcher Kailyn Berry took care of the rest defensively for the home team, allowing one hit and grabbing her seventh strikeout of the afternoon in the seventh.

Sophia White ended her CAC Tournament run with a strikeout and nine hits allowed in the circle.

Up Next: FNU awaits a bid to the USCAA Small College World Series with the selection show set for May 4.
