White shows grit as FNU comes away with 3-2, 11-inning victory over Westcliff

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (April 30, 2026) — Florida National softball (25-15) would not be denied Wednesday, pulling off a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Westcliff University Warriors (19-22) to open its stay at the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Championship. A walk-off base hit by Carollann McClelland in the eleventh was the difference in the two-hour and 12-minute battle in the Peach State.

Westcliff and FNU know each other well, as the Warriors sent FNU packing at last year's tournament in a 4-1 contest. The Warriors drew first blood Wednesday, scoring the opening run on a sacrifice fly out by Jasmyn Lara in the first. WU's lead doubled, funny enough, on an RBI double by Sara Ellerton to left center field in the fourth.

FNU was getting great contact on pitcher Madison Mendez, ending the game with 11 hits. It was only a matter of time for the Conquistadors to convert on these opportunities, and an Alisha Lanyon triple in the bottom of the fourth ran in Alyssa Julien to make it a one-score game. Sophomore outfielder Isabella Silva grabbed a double in the fifth to tie the game on a run by Annissa Quinonez.

What followed was five scoreless innings for both sides, with neither team committing any errors in the outfield and holding the other to stranded runners in crunch time. In the bottom of the eleventh, after holding Westcliff to a Lara single in the top of the frame, FNU scored with two outs on a McClelland single to bring home Julien for the walk-off victory.

White ended her 11-inning masterpiece with five strikeouts and three walks. Lanyon and McClelland had the best outing with three hits in five trips to the plate.

Up Next: FNU moves on to the winner's bracket of the CAC Tournament, facing hosts Georgia Gwinnett College tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
