Eagles best FNU on the road

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (April 24, 2026) — Florida National baseball (22-21) had three unfortunate errors earn them 7-4 and 3-2 losses to the University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles (30-11) Friday. Abel Gutierrez and Joshua Baker had the best performances from the plate for FNU with two hits apiece, as FNU baseball moves to 0-17 against UFTL since 2023.

Game one saw FNU jump to an early 3-2 lead in the second before UFTL went on 5-1 to close out the game. Former Conquistador Jordan Lewis was great from the dish with three hits in four at-bats and an RBI. First baseman Jon Pinciotti found his spots as well for two of the Eagles' 11 hits in the contest. Gutierrez was hot early on with a two-of-four performance from the plate and a stolen base.

Starting pitcher Braden Parmley pitched 3.1 frames, giving up four runs despite five strikeouts. Brandon Saunders took over the final 2.2 innings of the game, ending his afternoon with a pair of strikeouts and two earned runs. For UFTL, Austin Coward got his second win of 2026 after a masterful six-inning performance. Coward posted 10 strikeouts, one walk and three runs.

Game two was a much closer affair for FNU, fighting back in the seventh to tie the game at 2-2. Baker was a big part of this with his two hits igniting the offense throughout the game, as pinch runners Cameron Josemond and Andres Penate Jr. made it safely across home plate.

UFTL was up against the wall in the bottom of the frame, but were able to close things out after an error from pitcher Cole Philips on a routine throw to first pushed Eagle base runners home for the walk-off win in Oakland Park, Fla. It was Philips' lone earned run of the evening, ending a four-frame night for the Canadian.

Up Next: FNU ends the regular season with two more against UFTL tomorrow on the road, starting at 12:30 p.m.
