Baseball regroups for 9-1 win against MACU

AUGUSTA, Ga. (March 6, 2026) — Florida National baseball (10-9) split a two-game afternoon in Augusta, Georgia, defeating the Mid-Atlantic Christian University Mustangs (2-9) 9-1 after losing its opener to Paine College (2-6) 4-0.

FNU's mid-morning game versus Paine College proved to favor the home team, as the Lions relied on a two-strikeout outing from pitcher Omar Yepez to claim their second win of 2026. Jaleek Jordan-Johnson was clutch for the Lions with two runs scored on a 1-2 afternoon from the batter's box, while Howard Lazenby paced the team with two RBIs.

For Florida National, catcher Kanjiro Fujita had the best showing at the plate with two hits in three at-bats. Despite giving up three earned runs, starting pitcher Cole Philips recorded a strikeout and allowed just two walks from the mound.

Game two was the offensive explosion FNU is accustomed to, as the Conquistadors tallied nine runs and eight hits in the victory. Abel Gutierrez, Dwayne Dabian and Gino Gazzillo posted a double apiece while Jesus Sosa went two-for-three over seven innings.

Notably, pitcher Antonio Guzman claimed his third win of 2026 with five strikeouts through six innings of work on the mound.

Up Next: Two more games tomorrow against Mid-Atlantic Christian and Paine College closes out the Conquistadors' time in Georgia.
