Baseball conceded three home runs in a midweek loss to UFTL

HIALEAH, Fla. (March 24, 2026) — Conquistador baseball (15-12) was overpowered by a tough University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles (23-9) team, giving up 11 hits and three home runs in an eight-inning, 12-2 defeat at home.

UFTL has had great success against FNU recently, going 14-0 since the 2023 season. The streak stayed strong Tuesday, thanks in part to an impressive six runs from the Eagles through three innings in Hialeah, Fla. Michael Schleider highlighted this offensive explosion for the road team with the first home run of the afternoon in the second. At the same time, Rolando Lujo grabbed three RBIs on a double and a groundout.

Leadoff hitter Jesus Sosa got FNU on the board in the third with an RBI groundout to the Eagle shortstop, and FNU's pitching staff went to work to stop the bleeding on offense. Starter Brandon Saunders pitched the first two innings before four different pitchers took care of each inning that followed. FNU's Braden Parmley, Cole Philips, Erik Fuentes and Armando Jimenez did their job, allowing one run and three hits before UFTL broke through in the seventh.

Jun Moeller and Michael Santiago had back-to-back RBI singles in the seventh before Brady Jackson and Moeller tallied home runs in the eighth to make it an 11-1 ball game. A Nathan Bartman single to right ran in CJ Frezza to make it a 12-1 affair, and FNU was unable to avoid a run rule loss despite a sacrifice fly by catcher Cesar Mora in the bottom of the eighth.

Notably, Caleb Lambdin, Jose Chavez and Edgar Santos all pitched 0.2 innings to close out the action from Ernest R Graham Park.

Up Next: FNU stays local, hosting the Carolina University Bruins for a four-game conference series beginning Friday at noon.
