Softball scores 11th straight win before falling to RV Aquinas

VIERA, Fla. (March 11, 2026) — Florida National's (15-11) Sophia White recorded a 10-strikeout performance to go along with her second home run of 2026, helping FNU defeat Northwestern Ohio University (8-7) 4-3 in eight innings. Game two in Viera, Fla., saw FNU fall short against RV Aquinas College (14-4), 5-3.

White's second career home run was the spark plug FNU needed in a scoreless third inning. Outfielder Isabella Silva followed suit with an RBI single in her next at-bat, driving in Annissa Quinonez, before the sophomore rounded the bases on a base hit up the middle by Gianna Hall. The Racers broke through on a one-run base hit by Susan Vokes in the third and a two-RBI double by Morgan Piotrovsky in the seventh.

Both teams headed to extras, as FNU rallied on Hall's second RBI single of the afternoon and a two-strikeout eighth for White from the circle to pump the brakes on the racers' comeback. White ended the evening with just two walks, as Hall had a three-for-four performance at the plate.

FNU's late-game matchup against Aquinas was a back-and-forth affair, with FNU drawing first blood on a run scored on an error by Alea Fisher. Through the second and third innings, Aquinas went up 4-1 with a sacrifice fly by Mallory Buikema in the second, RBI singles by Katie Carlson, Abby Nieswender and Buikema.

Quinonez cut AC's lead in half with a base hit to the Aquinas pitcher in the third and made things interesting with a run from Alyssa Julien on a passed ball in the seventh. Relief pitcher Addy Buching recorded two strikeouts despite two walks in the final inning, handing FNU its first loss in over two weeks.

Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Pitcher of the Week Brunella Beteta went six innings for three strikeouts, and Ava Baronick pitched the final inning for the Conquistadors (one hit allowed, no runs scored).

Up Next: Conference rival Fisher College and Defiance College are on deck for Florida National this Saturday at the Spring Games beginning at 12:15 p.m.
