Women’s basketball runs out of steam in loss to GGC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Feb. 6, 2026) — Florida National women's basketball (11-12) had its first taste of basketball versus the Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies (16-6), missing the mark in a 76-49 defeat at the team's third and final Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Classic. GGC shot the ball well from inside the three-point line at 45.6%, while FNU went 6-20 from long range.

In the first quarter, both sides seemed equally matched, with FNU carving out just a 19-17 advantage at the end of the period. Maria De Gracia Karamanites was involved early with seven points and four rebounds, but GGC's Maddie Presha and Jamya Griffin combined for 13 Grizzlies points to keep their team in contention. GGC went 0-4 from three to start the game, and FNU went 3-8 from the three-point line and tallied 50% shooting from the floor overall.

GGC took back control of the contest in the second, outscoring FNU 16-10 to go into halftime up 33-29. FNU just could not get much offensive production from its starters, shooting just 25% heading into the third. While GGC's shooting from behind the arc was still questionable at best (0-5), the Grizzlies collected some points in a six-of-eight performance from the charity stripe.

GGC sealed the deal by holding FNU to just 20 points throughout the third and fourth quarters. Christen Collins and Griffin combined for 16 points in the third as GGC outscored FNU 30-12. Kaylee Llanos was the one bright spot for the FNU offense as the junior managed to post six points in the frame despite FNU turning the ball over six times. GGC did just enough in the fourth to protect its 63-41 lead entering the final 10 minutes, holding FNU to a one-of-six showing from the floor in the quarter.

Llanos paced her squad with an evening of 15 points, three assists and three rebounds. De Gracia was two rebounds shy of a double-double with 12 points and eight boards. Notably, Lamaria Williams had one of her most productive nights off the bench, tallying eight points on 3-5 shooting from the field.

Up Next: FNU and Morris meet once again tomorrow with tipoff set for 1 p.m. in Lawrenceville, Ga.
