Softball scores first win in split outing versus Webber

BABSON PARK, Fla. (Feb. 6, 2026) — Conquistador softball (1-3) bounced back from a 6-5 loss in the first of two games versus the Webber International University Warriors (1-1) to collect a 5-2 victory in game two. Gianna Hall came up big with a two-RBI homer, as FNU capitalized on three Warrior errors to claim its first triumph of 2026.

Florida National found itself behind early in game one after first baseman Thalia Romero launched a home run to center field to make it a 2-0 affair. Carollann McClelland was able to cut this in half with her single in the second that ran in outfielder Madisyn Garduno. The Conquistadors, however, allowed another big Warrior hit, this time from lead-off hitter Dominica Kohout. The center fielder blessed a two-score double down the left foul line to put her team up three in the second frame.

To their credit, the Conquistadors kept their bats active as Hall connected on a sacrifice fly to score Alisha Lanyon and took the lead on an impressive three-run home run from pitcher Sophia White. With FNU clinging to a 5-4 lead, WIU was able to call game in the bottom of the seventh on a two-RBI triple by Aliyah Bentley, her first hit of the afternoon. White ended her strong outing with six strikeouts and two-of-four from the batter's box. Alyssa Julien was also two-of-four in another productive appearance from the senior catcher.

Game two was a 4-0 affair in favor of FNU through the first five innings. Alissia Vega scored the first run of the contest on an error from WIU's shortstop in the first, and Hall put her team on her shoulders with a massive two-run bomb to center field in the third. Hall's home run made it a 3-0 FNU advantage, and an error from the Warrior outfield allowed Garduno to tack on one more in the fifth.

At the top of the seventh, notably, Bianca Bartow connected on a textbook single to run in Annissa Quinonez. Webber managed to post a pair of runs on singles from Bentley and Romero but saw its comeback hopes dashed on a six-three groundout.

Pitcher Brunella Beteta collected five strikeouts and just two earned runs in her first win from the circle.

Up Next: Softball has its home opener Feb. 12 against New College of Florida. The doubleheader is set to begin at noon in Weston, Fla.
