Conquistadors connected on 12 hits in a 1-1 outing against NCF

WESTON, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2026) — Conquistador softball (2-4) was one game short of a sweep against the New College of Florida Banyans (7-1), losing 7-0 in game two after exiting victorious in game one 3-2.

The Conquistadors were rolling offensively in game one despite the low score and tallied 11 hits. Game two saw the Conquistador bats go cold, with catcher Bianca Bartow earning the team's only hit with a single in the sixth.

Game one saw NCF take the lead on an error from FNU's shortstop to get Karyna Lewis safely across home plate in the third inning. At the bottom of that frame, FNU's catcher Alyssa Julien was elite and tied the game with a single to right field, scoring center fielder Alissia Vega. FNU's offense continued to pick up, and after pitcher Sophia White held NCF scoreless in the fourth, newcomer Kyra Rigozzi posted a solo home run to left to give FNU its first lead of the afternoon.

But errors continued to rear their head for the Conquistadors, as NCF utilized an errant pass from Julien for a Rylie Harwood run. FNU pulled away with the win in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI sacrifice fly to centerfield by sophomore Isabella Silva and three quick outs with four batters faced in the top of the seventh. White ended her first win of 2026 with a pair of strikeouts and no earned runs. Rigozzi was great from the box with a three-for-three performance in the opener.

About thirty minutes later, New College of Florida regrouped for an impressive shutout victory over Florida National. The Banyans steadily scored runs throughout the first four innings, starting with a solo home run shot by Sydney Rich in the first. Kelsey Harper was great with a pair of RBI singles before Rich capped off her campaign with a two-run single to right center.

Pitcher Brunella Beteta saw five innings of action, posting her 100th career collegiate strikeout. Ava Baronick and Brylea Rusler split the last two frames of the game, with both pitchers picking up outs from close range down the stretch.

Up Next: Softball stays home for two games versus Mount Mercy Feb. 13, starting at noon.
