Softball left winless by Mustangs Friday

WESTON, Fla. (Feb. 13, 2026) — Florida National softball (2-6) saw a high-hitting afternoon end without a victory after the visiting Mount Mercy University Mustangs (3-3) bested FNU 4-3 in game one and 4-2 in the closer.

Florida National's Kyra Rigozzi was solid in game one, with three RBIs and her second home run of her collegiate career in the fourth. Game two saw catcher Alyssa Julien take over with a three-for-four performance at the plate, but the Mustangs used clean fielding and elite pitching to deny FNU a pair of victories on home clay.

In game one, MMU trailed after Rigozzi placed herself on second base with a two-run double in the first inning. It wasn't until the third frame that MMU got on the board, tying the game with RBI singles by Ashley Smith and Calli Janik. The Mustangs took the lead in the third after Lilly Wuethrich got to first on a hit to left field, scoring Ashley Smith, and squeezing a run in on an errant pass from pitcher Sophia White before retiring the side.

Rigozzi homer in the fourth was FNU's final run of the contest, as MMU kept the Conquistadors scoreless for the next three innings and closed the seventh with three consecutive outs.

White tallied three strikeouts and no walks through all seven innings despite dropping to 1-3 this season from the circle. Isabella Silva joined Rigozzi as the second Conquistador to go two-for-three from the batter's box.

The following contest saw FNU fall behind at the hands of a one-score double after Calli Janik hit it up the middle to run in Ashley Smith. MMU's lead doubled in the first on a Janik run scored by Raegan Ware's single to left. FNU was able to counter in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by White but did not score again until the bottom of the seventh on an RBI base hit by Julien.

MMU's three pitchers tallied three strikeouts and kept FNU relatively scoreless despite combining for four walks in the 4-2 win. Brylea Rusler posted her second loss of the season, pitching three innings before Brunella Beteta stopped in the circle for a pair of strikeouts over the last four innings.
