FNU swept versus New College

SARASOTA, Fla. (Feb. 17, 2026) — Florida National softball (2-8) had a walk-off single from the Banyans deliver a tough 0-2 outing against New College of Florida (9-1). The Conquistadors conceded early leads in both contests and stand 1-5 over their last six games.

Game one saw the Conquistadors command a 1-0 lead in the third after Gianna Hall scored on a wild pitch delivered by Isabella Yazzetti. Yazzetti had given FNU some trouble in her 7-0 win last week against the Conquistadors, recording seven strikeouts in Weston, Fla. But FNU's base running proved to be enough, as the visiting team protected a one-run advantage until the Banyans found their groove in the fifth.

NCF posted its first run of the afternoon on a sacrifice fly from third baseman Samantha Suarez and took the lead with back-to-back RBI singles from center fielder Rylie Harwood and designated player Sydney Rich.

Starting pitcher Sophia White did her job by keeping NCF scoreless in the sixth inning, but FNU's bats were ice-cold with two swinging strikeouts in the sixth and no runners left on in the top of the seventh after three outs. White ended the afternoon in the circle with three strikeouts and a 1-3 afternoon from the batter's box.

About thirty minutes after the conclusion of game one, FNU was back on the clay up 1-0 off an RBI double by Kyra Rigozzi in the first. In the second, Brianna Marte grounded out for a 563 run down, but not before catcher Brianca Bartow successfully made it across home plate for the 2-0 FNU advantage. NCF, however, was right back in the game after catcher Kira McDonough connected on a two-run home run off pitcher Brunella Beteta in the fourth to tie things up in the fourth.

Errors were costly in this one, especially when relief pitcher Sydney Rich's errant pass allowed speedy base runner Alissia Vega to give her team a 3-2 lead in the seventh. NCF was finally able to wrap things up in this close back-and-forth battle in Sarasota, Fla., on a single from pinch-hitter Maya Moro with no outs on the board.

Beteta ended her afternoon with two strikeouts and three earned runs.

Up Next: Softball faces another Sun Conference school Feb. 20 with a noon doubleheader versus Florida Memorial on the road.
