FNU run-rule Lions in road sweep

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Feb. 20, 2026) — Conquistador softball (4-8) earned impressive wins over Florida Memorial University (0-4) Friday, run-ruling the home team in both games at Walt Frazier Park. Gianna Hall was crucial to FNU's success with two-RBI homers in both games, as FMU was held to one run through 11 innings.

In game one, the Conquistadors posted a 9-1 victory, kicked off by an RBI double from Alissia Vega in the second. Fellow outfielder Isabella Silva followed up her teammate's heroics with a single to run in Vega to make it a 3-0 FNU lead exiting the second. Madisyn Garduno was the star of the third with a two-RBI double to run in Kyra Rigozzi and Brianna Marte.

FMU's Mariana Gongora was able to put her team on the board with a home run shot to left in the fourth, but FNU ended things early with an RBI groundout for Vega in the fifth and a two-run home run from Hall in the sixth.

Sophia White pitched all six innings for FNU, collecting nine strikeouts and walking just one batter.

Florida National's efficiency in game two was even more intimidating, especially with Hall seeing the ball extremely well early. Picking her spots with great confidence, Hall had back-to-back RBI doubles in the first and third to give FNU an early 3-0 lead. Alyssa Julien added one more FNU score in the third frame off an RBI groundout, and what followed was an offensive onslaught from the rest of FNU's lineup.

Garduno recorded an RBI single in the third before Bianca Bartow hit a ball into play to run in Garduno at second. Entering the fourth up 5-0, Hall answered the call with a second stellar two-score home run that sent the bullpen into jubilation. Silva's double and second hit of the game in the fifth ran in Annissa Quinonez for the eighth and final FNU score of the afternoon.

Brunella Beteta got the start from the circle and made the most of her second win of 2026. The senior delivered seven strikeouts and no walks in five innings, allowing just two FMU hits.

Notably, FNU's eight-run margin of victory in both games is the highest ever recorded versus the FMU Lions, and FNU is now 10-2 all-time opposite FMU.
