Baseball opens 2026 with a split home campaign

HIALEAH, Fla. (Feb. 6, 2026) — Conquistador baseball (1-1) totaled 20 hits over its first two contests of the 2026 season, splitting a pair of games against the Baptist University of Florida Eagles (1-1). First baseman Christopher Rivera went three-for-three in game one and two-of-three in game two, as the Conquistadors will look to claim the series tomorrow.

FNU started the 2026 season trailing 2-0 after a home run by BUF's Junior Paulino. FNU did not stay scoreless for long as Jesus Sosa scored a single to run in Fausto Sanchez in the third inning. BUF used a couple of smartly hit ground balls in the infield to take a 4-1 lead, but FNU was able to take control of the game in the fourth and fifth frames.

Pinch hitter Cameron King got things started with a sacrifice fly to score Rivera, before a costly walk with the bases loaded ran in James Snyder. In the fifth, Snyder was a massive help with an RBI single to tie things up at four before an errant throw by the pitcher scored Rivera to give FNU the lead. FNU's dominance in the fifth frame continued thanks to a base hit from Noe Davila that ran in Snyder and a two-run double by Sosa.

BUF's fielding left much to be desired as the Eagles tallied five errors while FNU kept a clean game with zero. Despite this, BUF made it a two-run game by scoring on a wild pitch and a double from Quincy McFadden in the sixth. But at the bottom of the frame, FNU closed out the match thanks to a pair of two-score doubles by Kanjiro Fujita and Dwayne Dabian, along with an impressive two-run homer by Davila to right field.

On the pitcher's mound, Cole Philips grabbed the win with three strikeouts and just two walks in 2.2 innings on the bump.

To close out the afternoon, BUF once again got off to a great start and notched a 3-0 advantage in the first off rbi double from Ivan Membreno and Bryan Calderon. FNU soon faced a 4-0 deficit before Sanchez came alive for a thrilling three-RBI double in the second, and Snyder tied up the game in the third with an RBI single. BUF went on to capitalize on some FNU pitching mishaps, scoring on a hit by pitch and a wild pitch from the Conquistador staff.

BUF went on to outscore FNU 5-2 to earn its first program win in just the second-ever meeting between these teams.

Up Next: FNU baseball is back on the field tomorrow for a noon home doubleheader against BUF.
