Sosa’s home run highlights a 1-1 afternoon at home

HIALEAH, Fla. (Feb. 11, 2026) — Florida National shortstop Jesus Sosa needed just one pitch from relief lefty Brent Hamblin to deliver a home run bomb down the left field line to steal a 6-5 win over the Trinity College of Florida Tigers in the first of two games at Ernest R. Graham Park. The Conquistadors later fell 7-0 in game two for their second split doubleheader of 2026.

Game one was another instance of Florida National falling behind early, this time courtesy of a two-RBI double delivered by Raphael Jimenez. Besides that, starter Brendan Ford collected four strikeouts and allowed just one more run in the fourth on a wild pitch before his afternoon came to a close. In the second, FNU jumped ahead 3-2 thanks to an RBI single from third baseman Abel Gutierrez, a walk with the bases loaded that ran in Alejandro De Armas and a one-run fielder's choice hit into play by Fasuto Sanchez.

Ford's wild pitch in the fourth leveled the score at three runs apiece, and TCF allowed Dwayne Dabian to post a clutch base hit that pushed in Gutierrez and pinch runner Greyson Martin to give FNU the 5-3 advantage. TCF did not flinch, however, tying things up against relief pitcher Evan Dalmau with a pair of sac flies off Anthony Borja and Melvin Reyes' bats. It didn't take long for FNU to post its second walk-off win, relying on a solo home run from Sosa to close out the Tigers 6-5. Designated hitter and pitcher Hamblin was awarded the loss while Dalmau grabbed his first save of 2026.

Approximately 30 minutes following game one, TCF was able to hold FNU scoreless for the first time this season, with the Conquistadors leaving 11 batters stranded without getting on the board. Starting pitcher Erik Fuentes allowed TCF's first and second runs of the afternoon on a one-score single from Borja and a home run by Juan Angeles in the fifth.

Despite these scores, Fuentes was solid from the mound with one earned run and three strikeouts. TCF closed out the contest with another run in the fifth on a base hit by KJ Alba and three more scores in the seventh. Keorden Leito replaced Fuentes in the fifth and posted four strikeouts before Nicholas Gioia posted the last two outs of the game for the Conquistadors.

Notably, Sanchez had the best hitting performance for FNU in the defeat at two-for-four in game two.
