Fernandez posts double-double in loss to Florida College

HIALEAH, Fla. (Feb. 10, 2026) — Despite a 17-point, 12-rebound evening from starting forward Ronald Fernandez, Florida National (6-14) fell to a high-scoring Florida College (8-18) team Tuesday night. FNU stands at 1-6 against CAC opponents, while FC improves to .500 on the season versus conference teams (3-3).

FC grabbed its second win against Florida National this season, behind excellent three-point shooting and a strong rebounding effort, with 43 (28 offensive). Florida National also struggled from the free-throw line, shooting 7-18 from the charity stripe to snap a two-game winning streak.

The Falcons dominated the opening 20 minutes, thanks in part to 18 points from Malik Beauford. The Conquistadors trailed 51-32 at the break with Fernandez pacing the team with 10 points and five rebounds under or near the basket. Gary Adams was productive early with five points, but hit a wall after committing three quick fouls. Hasmar Francois picked up some of the offense from that point on with seven in the frame, but it was not enough to keep pace with an FC team shooting 52.8% from the field and 9-21 from the three-point line.

Heading into the break, the Falcons out rebounded FNU 21-15 and kept the Conquistadors off the free-throw line the entire half.

The second period saw FNU keep pace with the Falcons, but they were unable to stop FC's production enough to threaten the visiting team's hefty lead. FC still knocked down 18-39 from the floor and had a great performance from Sam Massaquoi as the guard tallied 15 in the final 20.

Things got chippy after Ferndaez took a shot to the mouth from a Chris Fetuga move to the basket that went uncalled, and a questionable no-call on guard Cameron Johnson's attack to the basket caused the senior to be called for a technical foul with 3:42 left on the clock. Despite some fire and fight from the Conquistadors, their early deficit proved too great to overcome. FC played the final minutes of the game with textbook precision, pushing the score over 100 on a thunderous dunk by Alexander Hepburn.

Along with Fernandez, Johnson was great with a team-high 18 points, while Francois ended the night with 14 off the bench. Despite four personals, Adams still managed to earn 13 points and six assists in transition. FNU's engine on offense, Serge Beauvoir III, bullied his way to 11 points and three assists.
