Conquistadors deliver 3-0 sweep of FMU Lions at Bucky Dent

HIALEAH, Fla. (Oct. 23, 2026) — Florida National volleyball (7-14) had a complete match against a tough Florida Memorial University squad (0-17) Friday night, defeating the Lions 3-0. Ariana Long and Chriselle Ferdinand led the Conquistadors with 13 digs and 16 kills, respectively, executing the team's first win at home in 2026.

Florida Memorial hosted Florida National on August 25, avoiding the 3-0 loss by forcing a fourth set before falling 25-22 in the final set. Avoiding the shutout was not in the cards for FMU Friday, as the Lions started the match down 1-0. Ferdinand's fourth kill of the game was the set point, and six FNU service aces in the frame lifted FNU past a Lions team that made a run, trailing 12-7 to make it a 21-18 match down the stretch.

Game two saw FNU's defense really shine, as Camila Polanco and Ferdinand combined for a stellar block to give FNU a 5-1 advantage early. Polanco was a great addition to FNU's match offensively, recording four kills by the end of the action. FMU was kept off balance throughout the set and was held to just nine kills to go along with seven attacking errors. Sophomore Grace Leffler got the set-clinching kill on an assist by Long, and FNU switched benches in search of another victory in set three.

Ferdinand could not have had a better start to game three, recording five of FNU's first six points off tremendous kills, pulling her team ahead 6-1. Despite a small run from FMU to make it a 10-8 affair on a kill by Joemyrah Clendinen, Ferdinand responded with her final kills of the match, and Pelin Alci sealed the match with three consecutive service aces to send the Lions home with a hard-fought loss.

Notably, Alci finished her evening with 27 assists and three kills while Lily Hitchcock and Diana Stetsko posted three of FNU's eight blocks.
