Men’s soccer falters in third consecutive road match

BABSON PARK, Fla. (Oct. 17, 2026) — Florida National men's soccer (8-7-1) lost its road battle against Webber International University (3-9-2), 2-1. The Conquistadors are now 1-3-1 over their last five matches, as a second-half goal from David Luque Rivero was not enough to topple WIU Saturday.

The first half of this non-conference clash was highlighted by an unassisted goal from WIU's Vitalis Takawira Jr. with 10 minutes left before halftime. Yellow cards were also issued to Stefano Pasara and Denis Silva, which proved costly in the second half for each team. FNU recorded just one shot in the opening frame from Kylian Behem that was saved by Alvaro Garcia. Before all was said and done in the period, Webber made it a 2-0 affair in the 41st minute with a second goal from Takawira Jr., this time assisted by Jack Chalmers.

FNU's Ignacio Pacheco got the start at goal for the Conquistadors before being subbed off in the second for veteran Vitor Caetano Pedrosa. Pacheco's afternoon included a pair of saves and the only two goals allowed in the match for FNU.

In the second half, it took only nine minutes for Luque Rivero to get things back in reach with an unassisted goal, his ninth score of the season. Tensions rose from that point on, and Webber's Pasara was shown his second yellow of the match and sent off the pitch in the 84th. Prior to the ejection, Dylan Schick and Mateo Lozada were also issued cautions by the center referee.

FNU looked to capitalize in the final six minutes of play with Webber down a man but ended the frame with five shots and forced no corner kicks. In the 89th, Silva was sent off the pitch after earning his second yellow of the match with mere seconds on the clock. Caetano Pedrosa ended the game with four saves, facing four shots on goal from the Warriors.

FNU is now on a three-game losing skid and drops to 2-2-1 against Webber since 2015.

Up Next: Florida National has its senior day set for Oct. 22, as they host Florida College for a 12:30 p.m. match at Milander Park.
