Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Brenda Bogle

Volleyball goes 1-1 in a pair of games at the WIU Tri-Match

BABSON PARK, Fla. (Oct. 15, 2026) — Florida National volleyball (6-13) performed well in two tough matches at the Webber International University Tri-Match Thursday. This is the Conquistadors' second trip to Babson Park, Fla., this season and saw FNU earn a triumphant 3-0 win over Andrews College (2-15) before dropping its match to the Webber Warriors (11-12) 3-2.

Against Andrews, FNU faced a 5 p.m. service time on a three-hour road trip. Despite the distance, tired legs and travel fatigue did not seem to impact FNU in any real way. The Conquistadors commanded a 25-20 win in game one and followed up their brilliance with a tremendous 25-17 rout in frame two.

Sara Lizano Joya had two critical kills in the first to put her team ahead 24-20, while Chriselle Ferdinand (3) and Carolina Goncalves (3) combined for six of FNU's 12 terminations. Andrews posted an impressive 12 kills, but seven attacking errors, including blocks by Lizano Joya and Pelin Alci, were just enough to keep the frame out of reach for the team from Georgia.

Set two was a defensive showcase for the Conquistadors, allowing just four Andrews College kills and forcing eight attacking missteps from the fighting Tigers. Three kills by Diana Stetsko helped put FNU in the lead 20-12, and despite a 5-0 run by the Tigers, a Stetsko block and a kill by Goncalves were enough down the stretch to give FNU the 2-0 match advantage. The third saw FNU put the finishing touches on its most dominant win so far this season, taking an 8-1 lead with Shelby Lynn at the service line to start the set. Ferdinand added five kills down the stretch to secure the 25-16 win and end the match with a team-high of 10.

Notably, Alci posted 22 assists and three service aces, while Daviona Bernard and Ariana Long combined for 14 of FNU's 36 digs.

Against Webber, FNU faced a tough task against a Warrior team that handed them a 3-1 loss in mid-September. Webber was true to form early with 16 kills to open the match with a slim 25-21win over FNU. Goncalves paced the team early with three kills, including a great attack to cut the Warriors' lead to 23-21. WIU sealed the deal, however, on a kill by Ninette Romero Lopez and blocks by Hailey Mull and Cassandra Kendall on Stetsko.

Set two was FNU's for the taking on an impressive 25-16 run. Webber's high-powered offense was held to four kills and double the number of attacking errors in the second. Ferdinand was great defensively with three blocks, and Camila Polanco got involved in the FNU block party with two of her own in the set. Mull's second attacking error of the match tied things up at one set apiece and set up a competitive third game.

FNU was great to start the third and took a 12-6 lead before Webber climbed back to make it a 13-11 affair midway through. This back and forth continued until Stetsko's kill tied things up at 20. Unfortunately for FNU, WIU claimed the frame on back-to-back clutch terminations from Kara Doan and Mull, closing its 2-1 lead on a missed attack attempt by Ferdinand.

FNU was not deterred by this close loss, coming back with a fury to claim set four, 25-17, leaving no doubt of its hunger for a clean sweep in the Tri-Match. The Conquistador defense held up to allow just eight Warrior kills while producing 14 kills of their own. Lizano Joya led this charge with five crucial kills and back-to-back attacking errors for the Warriors, ending the set and forcing a winner-take-all fifth frame.

The Conquistadors looked prime for another great victory on the road, jumping to a 6-1 lead on four combined kills by Lizano Joya and Ferdinand. Webber's Lucianna Marinella saw her team at a disadvantage and promptly took the game over, recording four consecutive kills to help tie things up at 7-7. FNU was outscored 7-5, with Marinella's last two kills of the frame solidifying her team's hard-earned win over a hungry Conquistador squad.

This is FNU's third 3-2 loss of 2026 and drops their overall record against Webber to 4-15.

Ferdinand (18) and Lizano Joya (12) posted 30 of FNU's 56 kills in the loss. Joliessa Perez was stellar with a season-high 16 digs while Long paced the squad with 21. Moreover, Alci was sensational once more with a staggering 47 assists.

This is FNU's third 3-2 loss of 2026 and drops their overall record against Webber to 4-15.
