Arkansas Baptist best FNU at CAC Classic

LAWRENCE, Kan. (Jan. 17, 2026) — Conquistador men's basketball (4-10) dropped its final game of the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Classic in Lawrence, Kansas, versus the Arkansas Baptist College Buffaloes (10-6). FNU's 91-67 loss puts them at 0-2 in CAC play thus far and 0-5 in as many games.

The opening half was controlled by a very effective ABC team, shooting 52.8% from the floor to take a 48-35 lead at halftime. Christopher Hood posted a 12-point period behind a near-perfect 5-6 shooting performance, while Javion Johnson and Tray'von Thomas combined for 16. For the Conquistadors, much of their first-half offense ran through Hasmar Francois. The junior guard posted 10 in the opener, and forward Ronald Fernandez led all players with four rebounds in 16 minutes of action. Despite his efforts on the glass, Fernandez could not stop the Buffaloes from outrebounding FNU 13-9.

When play picked up again in the second half, Florida National was able to make things interesting, making it a 10-point affair after a converted layup from Cameron Johnson with a little over 12 minutes remaining. ABC was held to just nine points in the first eight minutes of the frame, and FNU looked primed for a big run in the closing minutes. Unfortunately, Brian Gilmore's three-pointer in the 11th minute, along with a layup by Tiriq Pitt, was enough to pull the Buffaloes ahead at the perfect time.

The Buffaloes ended the half shooting 44.1%, and FNU's defense was stout with eight forced turnovers by ABC in the closing minutes. Francois was the only FNU starter in double figures with 12 points, two rebounds and two assists. Houston Culpepper was reliable with 10 points and seven rebounds for a near double-double off the bench. Notably, Gary Adams and Serge Beauvoir III combined for 16.

Up Next: Men's basketball faces another CAC opponent on Jan. 20, traveling to Temple Terrace, Fla., for a 7 p.m. game against Florida College.
