Volleyball defeats PSU Fayette in four sets

MONACA, Pa. (Aug. 29, 2025) — Florida National (3-7) completed an impressive 3-1 win over Penn State University Fayette (0-1) on the first day of the USCAA Tip-Off. The Conquistadors delivered their third win of 2025 with a season high of 52 kills and 63 digs.

In set one, FNU dominated with a 25-13 win to take a 1-0 match lead. Florida National had 13 kills and just two attacking errors in the frame. Kitula Amaya Morales picked up three kills in the frame, including the final point of the set. FNU was flying offensively, hitting an attacking percentage of .393 while keeping PSU at bay with just eight kills.

FNU did more of the same in set two, with a block from Keelee Okoro and Chriselle Ferdinand helping FNU take a 17-12 lead midway through. Chriselle Ferdinand's fourth successful attack at the net ended the set, delivering FNU a 25-15 victory.

PSU, however, did manage to force a fourth frame with an impressive 26-24 win in the third. In the third, both teams traded blows until PSU took a 20-19 lead late.
The Lions grabbed the win with a kill from Helena Fowler and an attacking error by Lily Hitchcock.

Despite the loss, FNU went back to work for a thunderous 25-15 win in the final set to exit the court of Penn State University Beaver. Fayette was held to just seven kills and had an attacking percentage of .074. FNU's attack only seemed to hit its peak in the final stretch, tallying a game-high 18 kills. Ariana Long was a big part of this run with five successful attack attempts, and errors from PSU proved to be its undoing. FNU claimed match point on a bad set by Helena Fowler.

Morales was impressive with 14 kills and 17 digs to lead all players. Sandoval distributed the ball well with 26 assists, while Okoro and Ferdinand each had two assisted blocks apiece.

Up Next: FNU has three games on the schedule tomorrow at the USCAA Tip-Off, starting at 11 a.m. against PSU Greater Allegheny.
