FNU eliminated from CAC Tournament, falls to Fisher 14-3

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (May 3, 2025) — Conquistador baseball (20-19) allowed eight runs in the first inning before coming up short against the Fisher College Falcons (26-24) on day two of the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament. The Falcons have now eliminated FNU from the conference tournament in back-to-back seasons.

Florida National got off to a great start after Adrian Roman put the ball in play for a single to run in Fausto Sanchez. Roman later scored on a base hit by Christopher Rivera, and a Rivera run after Ismark Gonzalez was fouled out to left field made it a 3-0 FNU lead.

Starting pitcher Alexis Dubeau got two quick outs to start the bottom of the frame before Fisher's offense turned on the jets. Gilbert Gomez's two-RBI triple was the catalyst and back-to-back RBI doubles from Ruben Rodriguez and Gabriel Rivera put the Falcons ahead 4-3.

Before Dubeau could get out of the inning, FC's Ian Cabrera and Yariel Salinas added four more runs on thunderous doubles to make it an 8-3 affair. Effectively, ending the Canadians' afternoon on the mound.

In the second, Mario Benjamin took over for Dubeau but could not deter two more Fisher scores thanks to a Rodriguez's double and Rivera's single. Four unanswered runs in the third and fifth innings proved to be enough to run rule FNU in Lawrenceville, Ga., despite the Conquistadors using three different arms down the stretch.

FC's Vance Serrano ended a seven-inning performance with four strikeouts and three walks, as the Falcons will now face Spartanburg Methodist College for a spot in the CAC Championship Round on May 4.

Up Next: FNU heads to the USCAA Small College World Series from May 11-15.
