Softball cruises to 2-0 SCWS start with win over PSU DuBois

DUBOIS, Pa. (May 13, 2025) — Florida National softball (25-27) took care of the Penn State University DuBois Lions (21-14) on Tuesday, grabbing an 8-0 win in five innings behind a two-for-two performance by Alissia Vega.

To start the game, FNU looked to leave behind its slow start from Monday's 10-7 win in extra innings. The Conquistadors took a 4-0 lead in the second and scored two runs on back-to-back wild pitches from DuBois' Theresa Luongo.

Vega got a run on the board with a base hit to left to score Yleisha Perez before Alyssa Julien connected on a sacrifice fly for an Annissa Quinonez score towards the end of the frame.

FNU doubled its lead in the fourth, kicked off by a sacrifice hit by Vega.
Game one hero Gianna Hall scored Sabrina Castelli with a crushing single up the gut of the defense before the freshman made her way to home plate on a wild pitch a few plays later.

DuBois failed to avoid a five-inning shutout in the fifth, as FNU's infield took care of the first three Lions at-bats to end the contest.

Pitcher Sophia White got her tenth win of the 2025 season with two strikeouts, three walks and no runs allowed.
