Softball’s seven runs in the fourth secures CAC Tournament win over Simpson

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (May 1, 2025) — Florida National softball's (23-25) freshly crowned All-CAC First Team honorees delivered a stunning 10-5 win over Simpson University (24-20) on opening day of the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament.

Florida National fell behind 4-0 early in the third inning before a thunderous seven-run inning in the fourth proved to be just what the doctor ordered. FNU's CAC first team members Alyssa Julien, Thanysha Gil and Gianna Hall combined for seven of FNU's nine RBIs. Julien also impressed with a five-for-five showing from the plate.

Simpson was in the driver's seat to start this CAC battle, utilizing RBI singles from Nicolena Holen and Brianna Lopez-Corte along with a run from Jordan Adami to make it a 4-0 affair in the third. FNU did not hang their heads for long, taking a three-run lead in the fourth thanks to a scoring run kicked off by Annissa Quinonez's RBI double to left field.

Freshman Madisyn Garduno followed suit with a sacrifice fly to score Sabrina Castelli. Quinonez and Yleisha Perez made their trip around the diamond for two more scores after Julien put the ball in play with a timely double. Notably, FNU ended the frame with back-to-back RBI doubles from Hall and Gil to make it a 7-4 game.

FNU continued its reign of terror in the fifth, posting one-score singles by Julien, Hall and Gil. Despite Simpson capitalizing on an error by FNU's shortstop, Tara McCaffery, to run in Kayley Vaillette in the fifth, FNU ended the game behind Sophia White's pitching.

White had three strikeouts and just two walks in her ninth win from the circle in 2025.
