Conquistadors clinch first winning regular-season record

SUMTER, South Carolina (April 5, 2025) — Florida National baseball (20-13) toppled Morris College (1-30) in a 5-3 and 10-4 sweep on the road. FNU ends 2025 with a 6-1 record against Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) opponents and is guaranteed a winning regular-season record for the first time in program history.

Game one was a close battle between these two squads, and FNU fell behind 3-1 in the third inning. Three unanswered Conquistador scores in the fourth proved to be just enough to once again deny Morris a win in Sumter, South Carolina. Starting pitcher Mario Benjamin ended his time on the mound with two earned runs and eight strikeouts. Closer Evan Dalmau picked up another save with an efficient 0.2-inning appearance.

Catcher Cesar Mora posted a double and outfielder Samuel Del Valle picked up two RBIs. Morris ended the showdown with six hits, while FNU just topped the home team with seven.

The afternoon's second game saw doubles from Fausto Sanchez, Christopher Rivera and Jason Altuve. Outfielder Erick Rodriguez tripled, and Christopher Rivera capped off an impressive weekend with a home run. FNU totaled nine RBIs and 13 hits, allowing just seven hits and two RBIs from Morris.

Rivera also had the best outing in a three-for-five performance from the plate. Notably, Brendan Ford picked up his second win of the 2025 season, recording three strikeouts and two earned runs.

Up Next: Baseball is on the road April 8 for nine innings against No. 23 Keiser at 11 a.m.
