FNU consumed by Nova Sharks 7-0

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (April 17, 2025) — FNU women's tennis (3-8) ended the 2025 regular season with a 7-0 defeat against the Nova Southeastern University Sharks (18-2). Nova is currently ranked as the No. 2 team in NCAA DII tennis, and FNU is 0-5 against the Sharks in as many meetings.

To start the match at the NSU Tennis Complex, FNU fell behind 1-0 at the end of doubles play. NSU's Kristyna Hranacova and Ita Habekovic defeated Julia Chodkowska and Vanessa Simone 6-2. Conquistador pair Natalia Calvo and Lavinia Anais Karadža lost by the same score to Noemie Dadoun and Julia Moraes.

Alara Juelide Akgul and Nadia Abad's 6-0 misstep against Isabella Ciancaglini and Soa Shing made it a clean doubles sweep for the No. 2 Sharks.

In the final stretch of the match, FNU's luck did not improve in singles play. Chodkowska fell to Habekovic in a respectable 6-2, 6-4 battle on court one. Shing bested Celeste Deniz Reyes 6-1, 6-0, and Abad had no better showing in her back-to-back 6-1 set losses to Ciancaglini.

Calvo was held scoreless in a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Moraes, while sophomore Akgul performed well before succumbing to Dadoun 6-1, 6-2. Karadža had the best afternoon for FNU, recording a second-set victory of 6-3 in her loss to Maya Benaich.
