FNU outmatched by No. 4 SEU Fire Saturday

LAKELAND, Fla. (March 28, 2026) — Conquistador men's (0-4) and women's tennis (0-5) tallied another shutout loss to a Sun Conference opponent, losing 4-0 to the No. 4-ranked Southeastern University Fire (11-3, 10-3) on the road.

The Conquistador women's doubles pair of Celeste Deniz Reyes and Valeria Labrador Perez recorded a 6-0 loss to Martina Picardi and Alessia Ciampi to open the match, giving SEU a 1-0 advantage early on. FNU did not have a third doubles pair, and Julia Chodkowska and Julieta Deniz Reyes's match, opposite Leonie Schondelmaier and Aurora Compagnucci, was left unfinished.

In singles play, Julieta Reyes tallied back-to-back 6-0 set losses to Picardi, giving the Fire all they needed to go 10-3 in 2026. Labrador Perez trailed 6-0, 5-0 to Isabella Garces, while Chodkowska and Celeste Reyes left their matches unfinished as well.

For the Conquistador men, doubles partners Dex Leyers and Mats-Jonathan Werner, and Mick Leyers and Lukas Nico Kopitzki, all fell in their respective matches 6-0. This was enough for SEU to command the opening point, letting singles play claim the victory at home.

Anis Kerfah made his 2026 debut on the singles court, leaving his match against Nikolas Kumria with no result. Dex Leyers fell 6-0, 6-1 to Pedro De La Riva, Kopitzki lost 6-2, 6-0 to No. 10-ranked Javier Gallego, and Mick Leyers suffered a 6-2, 6-1 loss to No. 16-ranked Gonzalo Ornia.

The FNU men are now 1-6 all-time versus the SEU fire, while the women drop to 0-6.

Up Next: Tennis takes a week off before going to Miami Gardens, Fla., for morning matches opposite the top-ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats.
