FNU faces an early postseason exit in 4-0 loss to No. 17 Bobcats

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (April 23, 2025) — FNU women's tennis (3-9) fell in the quarterfinal round of The Sun Conference tournament, losing to the No. 17-ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats (10-13) 4-0. FNU leaves Brunswick, Ga., with its first TSC tournament appearance and best Sun Conference record (3-5) since becoming affiliate members in 2023-24.

In doubles play, STU had the hot hand with Sezin Akin and Caterina Antonini taking a 6-2 win over Natalia Calvo and Lavinia Anais Karadža. Jenesie Burgos and Lauren Fullerton clinched the opening point with a 6-3 defeat of FNU's Alara Juelide Akgul and Nadia Abad.

Julia Chodkowska and Vanessa Simone led 4-3 in their unfinished match against Sofia Nardone and Anita Chornei.

In singles play, losses by Celeste Deniz Reyes, Abad, and Calvo pushed STU into the semifinal round of the tournament. Reyes fell in back-to-back 6-0 sets to Chornei while Akin outlasted Abad 6-3, 6-2.

Jenesie Burgos defeated Calvo with an impressive 6-4 win in set one before closing out the match with a 6-0 rout in set two.

FNU is now 4-10 against Sun Conference opponents since 2023-24 and 3-7 against the Bobcats over six years.
