Softball ends final home regular-season doubleheader on top

WESTON, Fla. (April 15, 2025) — Florida National softball (21-24) secured a sixth consecutive season with at least 20 wins, sweeping its final regular-season home games against Webber International University (20-24). FNU held on late for 4-3 and 5-4 victories on the diamond of Vista Park.

In game one, FNU and Webber were caught in an even 1-1 battle after the first. RBI singles from Thalia Romero and Gianna Hall were responsible for this stalemate, and Yleisha Perez got FNU its first lead of the afternoon with a single that ran in Sabrina Castelli

With the score at 2-1 after the second, Webber put together a 2-0 run thanks to sacrifice flies from Hannah Booth and Samantha Proctor in the fourth and fifth frames, respectively. In a game where sophomore outfielder Alissia Vega posted five stolen bases, it was only right for the transfer to rob home plate to make it a 3-3 affair in the fifth.

FNU was able to add another run in the sixth, scoring pinch runner Alexandra Trenholm on an error from WIU's infield. This was just enough for Sophia White to close out the game in the sixth. The sophomore righty ended the afternoon with five strikeouts from the circle.

FNU had no errors in the win and five hits, while the Warriors recorded two errors and nine hits.

The second game of the afternoon saw FNU add on a run on the board first with a one-score double from Vega. She also added two more stolen bases to her total before the game was over, and FNU went up 2-0 on a single from Hall up the middle of the field. The second and fifth innings saw WIU post unanswered scores after Booth recorded an RBI sacrifice fly and a timely run from Madalyn Luckhardt on a passed ball.

Luckily for FNU, the Conquistadors had a huge fifth frame on an RBI sacrifice fly by Alyssa Julien and a two-RBI single from freshman phenom Madisyn Garduno. Webber was able to make things interesting on a two-score double by Kylie Bright in the closing moments of the sixth. Pitcher Brunella Beteta and FN's outfield combined to end things in the top of the seventh, and Beteta grabbed her eighth win of the season.

The Conquistadors exited Weston, Fla., with seven hits and no errors, while WIU recorded 11 hits and three errors.
