FNU retires week one of Space Coast Games with a win over Defiance

MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 9, 2025) — Florida National softball (10-10) ended its first of two weeks at the 2025 Space Coast Games with a 2-1 win over the Defiance College Yellow Jackets (2-7) Sunday. FNU recorded a 1-1 afternoon after falling to Indiana Tech (5-4) 4-2.

Florida National is now 3-3 over six games in Viera, Fla., posting losses to Indiana Tech, No. 18 Indiana Wesleyan University and Cornerstone University over its first four days on the road.

In game one against the Indiana Tech Warriors, Florida National went ahead 1-0 in the first inning before conceding the lead in a less-than-ideal four-run fourth frame for their opponent. FNU did get some momentum back at the top of the fifth with its finale in the afternoon, but Indiana Tech held onto its fourth consecutive win against FNU in as many meetings.

FNU tallied six hits and four errors, while Indiana recorded six hits and a clean sheet with no errors on the board.

The Conquistadors did bounce back, however, with an inspiring 2-1 win over the Yellow Jackets to close out the afternoon on top. Gianna Hall was clutch once again with a double and an RBI sacrifice fly, and Annissa Quinonez kept things calm from the circle in seven innings of work.

Quinonez allowed just four hits and walked two batters. She also recorded one of the team's runs, along with leadoff hitter Yleisha Perez. Notably, Defiance's lone run also came from its pitcher, Anika Craft.

Up Next: FNU is back at the Space Coast Games March 13-16.
